A KESH woman has been fined and ordered to pay compensation to the local bar owner she assaulted.
Nicola Walker (46) of Mantlin Park in the village appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to assaulting Gary Jennings at the Mayfly Inn on July 12th this year.
Walker, whose name was given initially as Nicola Hickley before being amended after the court was told she was now divorced, also pleaded guilty to attempted criminal damage.
Police were called to the bar in relation to an alleged incident involving two other women. Walker was outside the bar with another woman when they arrived. When officers spoke with bar owner Mr Jennings and viewed CCTV. The footage showed Walker hitting Mr Jennings inside, and showed her kicking the door afterwards in an attempt to get back in.
When interviewed by police the next day Walker said she had been very drunk and could not remember what had happened. When she was shown the CCTV footage she made full admissions to police.
Defence solicitor Gary Black said that night Walker had been separated from her sister in the bar.
He said there had been another incident involving her sister and another woman, but Walker was not aware of this. Walker then saw her sister being restrained by Mr Jennings, and mistakenly though he was holding her by the hair when he was actually holding her by her hood.
Mr Black said Walker had had “half a story” and had “totally misunderstood the situation.”
The solicitor added Walker felt her actions had been “disgusting.”
District Judge Michael Ranaghan said he agreed Walker’s actions had been disgusting, as she had assaulted a man in his place of work. He fined Walker a total of £200 and ordered her to pay £150 compensation to Mr Jennings.
