500 sign petition to have dogs run and play freely

PROPOSALS to introduce dog exclusion zones in Fermanagh has been met by public opposition.
A petition to ‘stop FODC’s draconian policy on dog owners’ has been set up by Pets Lost and Found Fermanagh in response to the proposals aired at a Council environmental services meeting earlier this month. To date the petition has over 500 signatures.
If introduced, proposed dog exclusion zones would include; play areas, MUGAs, artificial pitches, bowling greens, tennis courts and playing fields.
In seeking support for the petition the group outline that while they are ‘very supportive’ of efforts to ensure that dog owners take responsibility for their dogs behaviour and clean up after them – “we believe that the proposal under consideration is draconian”.
The group goes on to state, “This will severely damage tourism in Fermanagh as many people who visit our beautiful county on our famed lakes also bring their dogs and with no public dog friendly area this will no longer be an option.”
They group also highlight that any Council proposals on dog controls will be subject to public consultation and have said they will urge ‘concerned dog owners to raise their opposition’.
They add, “Dogs have a right to exercise, run and play freely – provided their owners are responsible and clean up after them.”
