Boost for Lisnaskea as new housing scheme is planned

LISNASKEA IS in line for a massive boost with 54 new houses planned for the town.
A planning application has been submitted to build a new housing development consisting of 48 semidetached houses, six detached houses and 11 detached garages on the Gola Road, Lisnaskea.
If permitted, the new housing development will be built beside Carrowshee Park on the outskirts of Lisnaskea.
Stephen Mulligan from Oak Healthy Living Centre believes the new development is ‘great news for the town, and the surrounding vicinity.’
“There were a small number of new house build nearby a number of years ago in Carrowshee Avenue and there was big demand for them. Current restrictions for planning permission for all rural settings has directly lead to increased demand for housing when it becomes available.
“It is difficult for young people to get sufficient mortgages to get on the first rung of the property market while low wages levels in Fermanagh also leave it almost impossible to save up a sufficient deposit to buy a house.
“There is also a shortage of suitable housing in the Lisnaskea area for the rental market and I know some families that took a few months to find a house to rent.”
The application is currently under consideration by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and a decision will be made about the application in the coming months.
Gordon Robinson, from Lisnaskea based estate agents Gordon Robinson Property Sales also welcomed the proposal.
“Throughout the last couple of years, we have had a lot of enquiries from people wanting to have houses near Enniskillen.
“That is one of the reasons why it would be beneficial because this site would have easy access to the surrounding areas particularly in the morning and evenings for those travelling to work,” he said.
“The investment will certainly help the area – the more people living in the town will hopefully bring more business to the area.
All new developments are welcome to Lisnaskea and there is no doubt that there is an opening in the town for it,” added Mr Robinson.
