F Live Launch

At the launch of FLive are Maurice Kennedy (Editor of Fermanagh Herald), Evelyn Hassard (Chairperson of FLive), Nicholas Watts (Vice Chair) and Rosemary Watts (Treasurer) with P4 – P6 students from Holy Trinity PS and Jones’ Memorial PS students

EXCITEMENT is building ahead of the Fermanagh Live (FLive) festival 2014, which begins later this month.

The two week festival aims to showcase the ‘best in the West’ and beyond – bringing in a collection of some of the finest in music, drama and visual arts.

Kicking off on September 20, and running until October 5, the festival offers something for everyone in venues across the county.

The headline act is world famous pianist Barry Douglas, who performs an intimate recital of the works of Brahms and Schubert in the Ardhowen Theatre on September 29.

But it certainly doesn’t end there.

The colourful ‘Dragon Parade’ will signal the arrival of the festival on Saturday September 27, with children from across the county expected to partake in the parade throughout Enniskillen.

Live music comes in the form of Altan in the Ardhowen Theatre on Saturday October 4 – as well as Jazz Brunch with the Mark Bradley Quartet in the Enniskillen Hotel on Sunday October 5.

Bob Quick and the Big Brass Swing Band bring ‘Swinging through the shows and films’ to the Ardhowen Theatre on October 2, while Scottish musician Dick Gaughan performs on the same night in Blakes of the Hollow’s Level 7.

Enniskillen Amateur Dramatics Society present ‘Pirates Do Shakespeare’ on October 2 and October 4 at the South West College and The Buttermarket respectively.

Fresh from performing in a bath at the Ardhowen at last year’s festival, Padraig Potts’ Guide To Walking is the latest endeavour of Leitrim man Seamus O’Rourke, on October 3.

Brian Falconer’s ‘Land Is God’ film, shot in the county, features Enniskillen-born actor Ciaran McMenamin, Pat Deery from Monaghan, and Stella McCusker. It is to be show in the Unionist Hall, Regal Pass, on Saturday October 4, along with a showing of The Field, an adaptation of J B Keane’s play, starring Richard Harris, John Hurt and Sean Bean.

A unique way to see the various exhibitions on show is to partake in the Art Bus Tour, which takes place on October 1.

Starting from Enniskillen Castle, patrons will have the chance to enjoy a whistle stop tour by bus to various exhibitions around Enniskillen, with supper in Franco’s Restaurant following.

See the Fermanagh Herald, the media partner for the festival, in the lead up for full previews of events.
