Police in Fermanagh had an usual callout today – assisting in the delivery of a calf.

While on patrol in the Florencecourt area, one local sergeant literally got down and dirty in the job as he came to the aid of a cow who was giving birth in a field close to the road.

According to the PSNI, an eagle eyed constable who was accompanying the sergeant on a routine patrol spotted the mum-to-be and pointed her out. Never one to leave a female in distress, the sergeant then jumped out of the patrol car and went to the cow’s aid before helping to deliver the calf.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Think it was a great job done and something the sergeant won’t forget in a hurry!”
