Niall leads Coa cyclists off on epic bike challenge

CCO (3 of 4)

A GROUP of big-hearted Fermanagh cyclists are gearing up for an epic journey to raise money for charities both at home and in the developing world.

The brainchild of local man Niall Murphy, Coa 365 will see 12 cyclists taking on the challenge of cycling 365 miles in just 24 hours, but everyone is welcome to take part in the final leg of the mammoth journey on Saturday, June 4.

The group known as the Rocky Runners, who hail from all over Fermanagh and last year cycled Fermanagh to Croagh Patrick and back, will be cycling the county in “loops” to make up the 365 miles, without breaks and through the night.

The Rocky Runners are doing  the cycle to raise money for local charity Cancer Connect, which is provides a variety of services to Fermanagh cancer patients and their families. They are also fundraising for Fr Brendan Shannon’s ongoing work in Uganda, where 60 per cent of a population of 36 million are unemployed, where there is no free health care or education, and poverty is a way of life.

The local community is being urged to support the cyclists, and are invited to join in on the final leg of the journey. You can either take part for the last 30 miles as a cyclist, or by taking part in a fun run for the last 10km.

Starting at 2pm at Coa Hall, there will be medals, refreshments, and participants will be entered into a free draw. Entry for both the 30 mile cycle and the 10K run are available at coa365.eventbrite.co.uk. Registration starts at 12.30pm on the day of the event at Coa Community Hall.

For more information on the event and the charities visit the Cancer Connect NI and Coa 365 Facebook pages, or or contact Niall on 07725554923 or Ann on 07743497074.
