Councillor David Mahon opens the gate to three new business opportunities at the Moneykee site on the Kesh Road, Irvinestown bmcb 66

Councillor David Mahon opens the gate to three new business opportunities at the Moneykee site on the Kesh Road, Irvinestown bmcb 66

THE OLD Desmonds factory in Irvinestown is set to be transformed with investment in the excess of half a million pounds.

Moneykee Business Park which had been locked up for a number of years will soon be open for business, bringing an expected 20-25 jobs in the area within the next one to two years.

The former Desmonds Factory on the Kesh Road, close to Irvinestown closed in July 2003 and opened as Moneykee Business Park, but unfortunately was forced to close again for several years.

However new tenants have now been secured for the site, most of which are expanding business within the local area. Currently the site is being refurbished and reorganised to suit the needs of the businesses which are due to be unveiled in the coming months.

Moneykee Business Park is expected to cater for a range of businesses, with some of the new tenants in the process of applying for a change of use for the units.

Councillor David Mahon, welcomed the investment and job creation to the area, “One of my priorities as a councillor was to promote and assist in the creation and retention of jobs and it really is a good news story for Irvinestown and the surrounding area. I have put a lot of effort into getting the businesses to expand into this site and it was worth it.

“One of the best ways to help people in the community is by creating employment, local employment in towns and villages. It is great to see the recent announcement of over 800 jobs coming to Enniskillen and I welcome them very much. Fermanagh is more than the County town and local jobs means people don’t have to travel as far to work and can stay close to their homes and children.”

Cllr Mahon stressed the importance of the jobs and the investment as something which will benefit the entire local economy of Irvinestown and its surrounding areas saying, “Local jobs for local people, for local schools, for local benefit.”

And despite the initial investment of £500,000 to get the businesses park operational, it would seem that there is further good news ahead for local business and the economy, as Cllr Mahon highlighted that he is currently working on two more locations in Fermanagh to create new, local jobs.

He urged anyone either within Erne North or across Fermanagh who is thinking of starting up a business or who are outgrowing their current location and need to expand, to get in touch where they can learn more about the opportunities available for them.
