Roslea ranked as blackspot for road users

POTHOLES around the county are continuing to cause problems for drivers. In east Fermanagh a number of potholes have recently been highlighted. Currently under the spotlight is on the Corranny Road near Roslea. Two large potholes which have been worn over a period of time are proving problematic for those travelling along the rural road.
Commenting, Councillor Sheamus Greene said, “Locals have told me that this pothole has been reported almost twelve months ago and there’s not even a yellow line around it yet.”
Cllr Greene acknowledged that others had told him that areas of the road surface had been patched but claimed it “only lasted a matter weeks”.
He continued, “The roads agency may not consider this to be a top priority but for people, like myself, who live on rural roads, we are on these roads every day and it’s equally as annoying for us as a pothole is on a busier road, such as the Nutfield Road. We pay the same taxes and we would like to see this prioritised as it has been reported months ago and is still not fixed. It may be that it could have slipped through the cracks but it’s important to highlight this.”
The Nutfield Road is understood to have had an area repaired on Thursday last. The repairs came after a large pothole formed where layers of tarmac had crumbled.
Prior to it’s resurfacing Cllr Greene had claimed that the defect left the road “very dangerous”. This week he welcomed the repairs on the road runs from Lisnaskea to Brookeborough.
“Hopefully this resurfacing will work because that area of road was a bit of a danger.”
A spokesman for the Department of Infrastructure said, “The are currently no plans to resurface the Coranny Road, Rosslea. The Department will continue to inspect the road and repair any actionable defects recorded.”
He continued, “With regards to the Nutfield Road, a section of the road has been resurfaced to address a localised area of defective carriageway. There are no plans to carry out any further resurfacing work until Lisnagoole road reopens to traffic at which time the condition of Nutfiled road will be reviewed.”
