REUNITED… Darren Parton and parrot, Lolly

IN ONE of the more unusual cases of a missing pet, a local man was reunited with his beloved African parrot last week, almost a month after it originally disappeared.

The bird vanished four weeks ago when its owner Darren Parton was cleaning out its cage.

Relative Michelle Jones explained more: “It just flew out the door while he was cleaning out the cage.”

The bird, not yet a year old, is not only a pet, but a faithful companion of Darren from Cavanaleck and is valued in the region of £800.

“He was very worried,” she continued. “He had been out looking for a few days after she went missing, but thought it had gone.”

The breakthrough came almost two weeks ago when Lolly was spotted near Enniskillen Collegiate Grammar School. After a rescue operation involving Erne Veterinary the bird was finally recovered on Thursday evening and the owner located. In a further remarkable sequence of events Lolly was reunited with her owner when he called her and she flew down from the school to perch on his shoulder.

“He never thought that the bird would be found, but once he got the news he was delighted. The bird would be used to a warm climate, so it is amazing that it was found safe and well and being missing for so long.

“He had been away fishing when he got the call the bird had been located and was panicking that the bird would be gone by the time he got home. Thankfully though he got home in time and went up to the school and the bird was there.”

She added: “The doors and windows are now locked to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
