Brollagh decision to be made ‘as soon as possible’

St Marys High school Brollagh

A DECISION on the future of St Mary’s High School, Brollagh will be made ‘as soon as possible’. The school has been recommended for closure by CCMS, but the final decision rests with Education Minister John O’Dowd.

The latest update comes after representatives from the North West Education Action Group met with the minister yesterday at Stormont.

Francis Maguire from the group explained that it was a productive meeting as Mr O’Dowd heard the group’s proposals for a cross-border education model.

“The minister listened very attentively to our case and told us he had made no decision on the school yet. He said he will make this decision as soon as possible, but doesn’t want to rush into making a rash decision.”

Mr Maguire told the Herald that Mr O’Dowd appreciated the local concerns, commended the action group and stressed that he would ‘exhaust all the information’ before making a decision.

During today’s meeting Mr O’Dowd also referenced his Irish counterpart Ruairi Quinn, who he said was in favour of a cross-border education model if it could be agreed.
