AN EXHIBITION of work by primary school children from Mullanaskea went on show last night, Tuesday, at St Patrick’s Primary School.
In conjunction with its parent teacher association, staff organised the exhibition, which included a piece from each child in Primary 5 and Primary 6.
The children’s parents were invited along to view the pieces last night, with individual pieces were purchased for a donation. Proceeds were in aid of school funds.
However, the main aim of this evening was a crossover between the promotion of art as a curriculum subject and the other life skills that it brings.
The school had previously held two art exhibitions where the other classes also exhibited their pieces.
On these occasions, the school invited a guest speaker to enthuse and enlighten the audience which included children, parents and staff.
For this exhibition, the school decided to avail and concentrate on its own resources.
A member of the school teaching staff, Aine Toal talked about the importance of art and the stages of art in children’s development.
Mrs Toal, whose degree is in art and co-ordinates the art programme within the school, was also accompanied by past pupil Ellen Maguire.
Ellen is an A Level art student at Mount Lourdes. Ellen displayed pieces from her own collection that she had produced in the course of her time at Mount Lourdes.
