MEMBERS OF Sinn Fein in Fermanagh are heavily involved in helping party colleagues ahead of the  general election in the South later this month.

Local MLA Sean Lynch explained that he has was recently in Sligo helping party colleagues and was in south Donegal this weekend as part of a collective and concerted party election effort across Ireland.

“We have numbers (from Fermanagh) going down to Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan,” he told the Herald.

“We’re an All-Ireland party and sure we only have to go a couple of miles up the road.”

Mr Lynch is confident the party will have a successful election on February 26, 2016 and is backing an increase in seats in the Dail.

At present the party has 14 elected representatives in the South and took 9.9% of the vote in the last general election in 2011.

“I have no doubt Sinn Fein is going to have a good election. Anything from 23 seats up to 25/26 seats. That would be a massive success for the party. Then I think we’ll start our own campaign (Assembly elections in the North) in earnest after that.”

The southern election will take place on Friday, February 26 and analysts reckon there is a possibility the state will have to return to the polls with no one party expected to achieve an overall majority and limited options to the main parties in terms of forging coalitions.
