Goal gave Roslea the final spark that they needed

Roslea v Teemore - Senior County Final 2014

FOUR TIMES.. Celebrating the fourth New York Cup win in five years are Conor, Sean and Seamie Quigley with Seamie’s daughter Hollie.

You know Roslea, they’re firm believers in that old dictum, goals win games. Yet, despite their most determined effort for the first ten minutes of this final goal eluded them.

Hugh Brady was on damage control in the Teemore area and settling into his work with a will, you could almost say he was starting to look comfortable.

But nevertheless, come the goal did, and when it came it was thanks to a little flash of magic from Conor Quigley. The corner back made a lateral run which hacked open a hole in the left of Teemore’s defence and laced the ball into the danger zone where brother Seamie dispatched her to the net without any further ado.

It looked great, but Conor Quigley has a correction for the record.

“In fairness that time I got the ball if I was totally honest I was going for a point, but the thing about it is when you’ve Seamie or Sean in the full forward line a ball dropping short is still very dangerous and thank God Seamie put the ball in the back of the net.

“We needed that to give us a wee lift. I think we were very slow in our build up and that gave them time to get back and get their shape. It needed something to rise us up a wee bit.”

The goal certainly helped to settle Roslea, but Teemore made a fierce battle of it for the full 60 minutes and Quigley was quick to praise them for the fight they brought to the showpiece, particularly their rising stars in the forward line who he had one-on-one experience with.

“Teemore have a lot of experience and those young players are learning off the older boys. It’s a great team to play for, Teemore, I suppose when you have such older boys to learn from. But those two boys [Eoin McManus and Ryan Maguire] are very sharp and they’ll definitely be ones to watch out for in the future.”

Quigley understands that the focus is now on Ulster and he is determined to fly the Fermanagh flag with pride.

“Last year we got to a semi-final and I suppose bar a few mistakes we were in a final. We will be knuckling down after we celebrate today and trying to do something in Ulster again and representing our county.”
