Fermanagh Community Transport
Fermanagh Community Transport (FCT) provides transport in rural and urban areas of Fermanagh, using a mix of accessible minibuses and volunteer car drivers.
FCT has been formed through the merger of Rural Lift for South West Fermanagh and FAST Rural Transport. Both these organisations have been operating services for 13 years with surplus funding set aside for replacement and upgrading of their fleet.
FCT aims to ensure people in Fermanagh have access to places and services – providing an affordable transport system to over 2,000 members.
The organisation is managed by seven directors (who are volunteers) providing a wealth of experience and recently appointed a former senior civil servant as chairperson.
Last year 28% of journeys (18,044 trips) were provided by volunteers consisting of 30 volunteer car drivers and a pool of volunteer minibus drivers.
Lisbellaw Credit Union
Lisbellaw Credit Union is a member owned, not for profit, financial co-operative providing savings, credit and other services.
Set up in 1990 in a community hall with just 17 members, the Union now has over 1,500 members and is located in purpose built premises.
The credit union was established to provide affordable credit to the local community and help members start their own businesses, grow farms and build their own homes. All profits are reinvested back into the community through dividends to members or support to local charities.
A committed management team has ensured steady growth over the past decade while contributing to the formation of the Ulster Federation of Credit Unions. Volunteerism is the lifeblood of the organisation, with 21 members volunteering in the running of the credit union.
Lakeland Community Care Ltd
Lakeland Community Care Ltd (LCC) is a non-profit organisation that cares for older people in rural Fermanagh. It’s overseen by a voluntary board of directors and offers services including domiciliary care, day care and flexi-care to help older people to live independently.
Established in 1994, LCC has sites in Belcoo, Garrison, Derrygonnelly and Teemore and Newtownbutler. A new healthy living centre in Belcoo is to open in 2014.
LCC reinvested profits from 2011/12 into staff wages, bonuses and improving facilities with surplus set aside for training of staff and volunteers in 2012/13.
The organisation provides a vital service helping older people to live on their own in their own locality and providing social activity for them.
Volunteers are essential to this organisation – from directors to drivers and befrienders.
