Lisnaskea set for annual Royal Black parade

THOUSANDS are expected to travel to Lisnaskea this weekend for the County Fermanagh Grand Black Chapter Annual Commemoration.
Taking place a week before the Apprentice Boys of Derry commemoration in the Maiden City, this year’s Fermanagh event takes place on Saturday, August 3.
The parade, which begins at 12.30pm, will mark the 335th anniversary of the Battle of Newtownbutler, which was part of the Williamite War and took place just a day before the Relief of Derry, which brought an end to the famous siege, and almost exactly a year before the Battle of the Boyne.
This year’s event is expected to be as big, if not bigger, than last year’s commemoration in Tempo which saw an estimated 1,800 Sir Knights from 35 preceptories marching alongside the 36 bands in the east Fermanagh village.
The parade route will be along Lisnaskea Main Street and Moorlough Road and is expected to return by 3pm, following a religious service.
Police have warned motorists of traffic disruption in the town throughout the day.
“Delays are expected from 10am as participants and supporters arrive to assemble at Manderwood Park Business Complex,” said a PSNI spokesman.
“At approximately 12pm, the parade will leave the Business Complex and proceed along Main Street, Moorlough Road, and onwards to the Demonstration Field on the Moorlough Road for a religious service.
“At approximately 3.30pm, the parade will leave the Demonstration Field and proceed on its return journey. It is expected to disperse at around 5.30pm.”
They added, “There will be parking restrictions along the parade route, and organisers have asked members of the public to reserve any available parking for blue badge holders.
“Officers will be on the ground to accommodate the flow of traffic. To avoid potential delays, road users may seek to find an alternative route.
“Police would also like to advise street traders that they must have a valid Street Traders License issued by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and are asked that their stall does not encroach unto the road. We would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable day.”
