A FERMANAGH footballer who has recently graduated from Queen’s University Belfast has said that studying a degree was “a distraction” from pressures of the NIFL Premiership.
Larne player Micheál Glynn has graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Planning, Environment and Development. He combined his studies with football, winning back-to-back Premiership titles.
The 22-year-old Derrygonnelly man, who plays as a left back for Larne, was celebrated during a special graduation service at Queen’s University Belfast.
“Micheál never lost sight of his academic goals and returned to Queen’s in September for his final year, where he honed the skill of balancing his dual roles in sport and academia,” said a University spokesperson.
“Balancing the demands of professional football and academic commitments was no mean feat as Micheál’s life became a juggling act of training sessions, match days and long nights dedicated to his studies.
“While he remains committed to pursuing his football career, the completion of his degree at Queen’s provides him with a valuable safety net and a wealth of opportunities beyond the pitch.”
The Larne left back, who has also won two County Antrim Shield titles with the club, is pleased to graduate with a degree in Planning, Environment and Development.
“Sometimes when football isn’t going the way I might expect, my attention would turn to studying as a distraction and vice versa,” Mr Glynn told Queen’s University, Belfast.
“The breadth and depth of the Planning, Environment and Development course has given me great knowledge and skills to go into various career paths. It’s given me a really solid foundation to build upon.
“I am very lucky to have achieved a lot already in my career and am looking forward to finding what comes next for me.”
