THIS year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Enniskillen promise to be even bigger and more spectacular than ever, with organisers currently hard at work finalising plans for all the fun and festivities.
With the theme ‘Folklore in ‘24’, the team at Project St Patrick are hoping to build on the huge success of last year’s event by including plenty of exciting new additions to the programme to create a weekend festival atmosphere.
To that end, events this year kick off on St Patrick’s Eve, March 16, with plenty of fringe fun planned, including folklore storytelling sessions on Castle Island.
As darkness falls, Saturday will also see the return of the illuminated flotilla that debuted last year.
Set to be even more spectacular than last year’s display, the flotilla will feature even more boats and even more lights than last year’s spectacle.
Alongside the flotilla, there will be plenty of on-shore activities on the Saturday, including live entertainment and food and drink vendors at the Broadmeadow.
Moving on to the big day itself, Sunday, March 17 will see the Project St Patrick’s annual fun day kicking off at 1.30pm, with “even more free treats, giveaways and activities on the Broadmeadow” this year.
A Project St Patrick spokeswoman promised “all your expected favourites plus some very unique additions to ensure less queuing and more focus on fun for your family day out” at the fun day.
Once again, St Patrick himself will be arriving in style to Ireland’s only island town, and will be on hand along with his Irish wolfhounds for selfies.
The fun will also be continuing on Castle Island on the Sunday.
The main event, the ‘Folklore in ‘24’ themed parade, starts at 3.30pm and will feature even more entries than last year.
“We promise a vibrancy of colour and music like never before,” said the spokeswoman, who urged anyone who requires use of the ‘quiet space’ view area to get in touch with the committee.
“The success of 2023 was down to every single person who came out on the day, you created that special Enniskillen energy.
“So naturally we’ve been working hard all year to make sure that together we can top that amazing atmosphere and make ‘Folklore in 24’ really roar.”
