Future looks bright as Lisnaskea in line for new centre

THE Carrosyl Community centre is right at the heartbeat of the Sylvan Hill and Carrowshee neighbourhood, the non-profit group organisation was founded back in 2001, with the mission to improve the quality of life for all residents of Carrowshee Park and Sylvan Hill.
Over the years, the non-profit organisation has only grew from strength to strength, with a rising demand of younger members looking to sign up for youth clubs and after school homework groups. However, despite the growing popularity of services, committee members who work on a volunteer basis do not have the space or the manpower to accommodate the growing demand.
Fortunately, all of that is about to change, with the future looking bright for the group since the National Lottery appointed a community officer for the area, with extra funding to help plans for a brand new centre with construction expected to start early next year.
Committee member of the Carrosyl group, Kathleen Breen said; “we are delighted to announce that the association will be getting a community development worker for three years, who will spend her time visiting people to see what ideas can be put forward in the interests of local residents for the new centre that we hope to have up and running by spring time.
“The new centre will be used to facilitate everyone in the area, every resident will have their own control and input to the new facilities and not just committee members. There will be potential for carer toddler groups, that local residents will be able to run themselves, instead of depending on committee members.
“We would love to have four or five after-school clubs in the week, because we are so close to different schools in the Lisnaskea area. We already have two after-school clubs but there isn’t enough manpower to match the demand.
“At the minute we have 35 primary school children and over 20 secondary school students that would use the facility for homework purposes or to wait for parents to get home from work.”
The Carrosyl group will continue to work on a voluntary basis, with fund-raising projects to help provide further facilities, services and activities in the interests of local residents.
