Woman followed drink driving suspect to his home

A DERRYLIN man has been disqualified from driving after failing to give police a breath sample to test.
Kevin Timmons (61) of Knockninny Park, appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to careless driving and failing to provide a specimen.
On June 30th police were contacted by a member of the public regarding a suspected drunk driver in Derrylin. The woman said she had been driving on the Main Street when a Ford Focus pulled out in front of them, forcing them to brake to avoid a collision.
The caller said the Focus then stopped in the middle of the road and the driver, Timmons, got out and approached their car. She said Timmons was staggering and accused her of speeding which she denied.
The woman then followed the Focus, which went to a shop, which Timmons went in to. The woman told police he had then driven to an off licence, went in, then drove back out on to the road. Timmons then drove to a house, which the woman pointed out to police was his home address.
Timmons did not give a reason for not providing a sample for breath testing when to the officers who called to his home, aside from telling the police they had no right to enter his home.
Defence solicitor Sean McHugh said at the time of the incident Timmons had been going through a stressful time, caring for a loved one who was disabled. He added Timmons suffered from a number of medical conditions himself. Mr McHugh said Timmons offered no excuse, and while he differed with the opinion of the other driver on the quality of his driving, he accepted the charges.
District Judge Steven Keown fined Timmons, who he said had an “effectively” clear record, £300 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
