Young candidates take Erne West as counting concludes

AFTER a long wait, the SDLP’s Adam Gannon has been elected in Erne West. He joins Sinn Fein’s Chris McCaffrey, who has also being elected in the area. At 24 and 23-years-old, respectively, the pair will become Fermanagh’s youngest councillors.
Meanwhile. Sinn Fein’s sitting councillors Sheamus Greene and Thomas O’Reilly have been returned, as has the SDLP’s Garbhan McPhillips. After 29 years on the council, Brian McCaffrey has failed to retain his seat.
The last count of the evening to conclude was Erne North, with three new faces taking the final seats. Sinn Fein’s Siobhan Currie has been elected, as has the UUP’s John McClaughrey and the DUP’s Deborah Armstrong.
Counting in the Enniskillen electoral area will begin here at the Omagh Leisure Complex in the morning. Stay tuned to the Herald’s social media pages for updates throughout the day, and be sure to pick up next week’s Herald for a full round-up of the weekend’s results.
