A chara,
The local government elections on May 2nd come at a pivotal time in our political process. The combination of Brexit and savage austerity cuts pose a grave threat to public services and our wider economy. Both have been forced upon us by a British government which refuses to recognise the majority opposition to Brexit here. This government is also in hock to the DUP and, consequently, continue to stand over a shocking denial of rights that would not be tolerated anywhere else on these islands. But it doesn’t have to be like this.
A strengthened Sinn Fein vote is the best way of combating this destructive agenda. Sinn Fein has brought Irish interests to the heart of Europe in a sustained and determined effort to ensure there will be no hardening of the border or undermining of the Good Friday Agreement. We are equally determined to end the DUP’s denial of rights. We are determined that there can be no place for arrogance, sectarianism, homophobia and racism in any of our political institutions. Integrity and genuine power sharing are not negotiable. They are essential. For public confidence and for good public services. Our island is changing and old certainties are being cast aside. It is clear that partition has failed and a new future is emerging. We want it to be a future of unity and prosperity for all. A new Ireland based on equal treatment and rights for all citizens. Sinn Fein is the only party capable of delivering this future. We are building it every day. In every corner of Ireland. In communities and in council chambers where we deliver for all citizens. On May 2nd, help us to achieve it. Vote for your local Sinn Fein candidates.
Is mise
Michelle O’Neill MLA, Sinn Fein
vice-president
