Going strong. Huge surge in profits for Tracey Concrete

ONE OF the county’s biggest employers, Enniskillen company Tracey Concrete, has had a very successful financial year after posting a 63% surge in pre-tax profits.
According to the latest financial report released by the firm, turnover increased by almost £7m (54%) over the year to £19.5m, with profit before tax rising from £1.9m to £3.2m for the year to March 31, 2018.
The company headed by Patsy Tracey is one of the largest precast concrete manufacturers in the UK and Ireland.
They specialise in precast drainage, tunnelling and building products, and the company has a strong workforce of almost 150 people.
In May 2017, Patsy Tracey told the Herald that they are ‘building a new factory in Enniskillen and when we get that finished we will very much look at what we are going to do in Belcoo.’
The long established Enniskillen company, based at Old Rossorry Road, Enniskillen, bought the quarry at Gardrum Road, Belcoo, from Acheson and Glover some time ago.
The Belcoo property comprises two limestone quarries divided by the Gardrum Road and in total extends to approximately 177.4 acres (71.8 hectares).
Belcoo (Creenago) is the larger of the quarries with a total permitted reserves of 7,066,180 tonnes of dolomitic limestone and blue carboniferous limestone.
The purchase of the quarry was outlined in the company’s recent financial reports.
According to other media reports, in a statement attached to the results, director Patsy Tracey said, “The economic environment in which the company operates continues to be challenging.
“However, the ongoing strategy of the business is to continue to target profitable contracts, maintain turnover and increase profit margins through cost containment.
“Performance in the sector is affected by general economic conditions including the impact of Brexit which is yet unclear. As the likely outcome of Brexit negotiations becomes clearer, the directors will consider it as part of their ongoing strategic review process.”
