Development could transform east end of Enniskillen

A MAJOR residential and retail development has been proposed for Enniskillen which could help bring the Dublin Road to life!
The proposed plans will see the erection of a residential development comprising of 18 houses and a block of 21 apartments complete with 30 car parking spaces.
There are also plans in place for a hot food restaurant, complete with car parking and new access from the main road. An artist’s impression of the development suggests this unit will include a drive-through facility
The proposed development will essentially straddle the busy Dublin Road with the retail unit and housing adjacent to the old Dolan’s filling station currently being transformed as a Centra store complex. On the opposite site of the road the apartments are planned for a site next to Celtic Park playing field.
A public exhibition took place last Wednesday in the Westville Hotel to gauge public opinion on the three separate developments, and a large crowd attended to see the plans.
Planning permission has not yet been sought for the sites but it is believed that this is in process. Three separate planning applications will be made in regards the three new buildings.
A spokesman for Clarman Architects and Planners, who are working on behalf of the local developers, said, “We held the public exhibition last Wednesday to get the neighbours out to have a look and see the development plans before it went into planning.
“There were mixed opinions among those who attended but it went well. In general the overall development of the lands was positively received. A lot of people were pleased to see the plans for the development before it went into planning and the residents were pleased that the vacant lands, which many perceived as being an eyesore, were being developed.
“There would be 18 units to the back land, and 21 apartments on the Dublin Road.”
Meanwhile, on the other side of Enniskillen, there is the prospect of another significant development with the 2.8 acre Sligo Road site of the Lochside cruising company going on the market sale for an undisclosed asking price.
The prime site is advertised as a ‘cruiser facility offering redevelopment potential’ and it is believed that the land could be used for residential development.
