AS they face their first Christmas without him, the family of young Thomas Magee, who lost his life in a tragic accident earlier this year, are looking to the future by helping other children in need.
Four-year-old Thomas from Greenhill Road in Maguiresbridge, died at the family farm on the evening of April 6th in an incident involving a digger.
Eight months on his heartbroken parents David and Jackie are drawing strength from their daughters, Emily (8) and two-year-old Lucianna.
Emily has been working very hard since she lost Thomas, raising money to make other little children’s wishes become reality through the Make a Wish Foundation. She is aiming to raise £10,000 in his name and has already raised £8,000 from a coffee morning at her school, Maguiresbridge Primary, in June.
Now they are aiming to reach their full target by holding a Trek for Thomas this New Year’s Eve. At 1pm tomorrow (December 31st), walkers will gather at the Glens Cottage to embark on a walk through Gortin Glen Forest Park, beginning at 1.30pm.
“Doing the fundraising walk is a nice way to end the year and to start 2018 in a positive way,” said Jackie. “We hope it will be well supported.
“Emily is determined to make something good out of something sad and to help sick children. She is a real inspiration. She makes us remember how lucky we are to have two beautiful little girls, even though we have lost a very precious little boy,” Jackie added.
“People have been amazing and we have met other couples who have tragically lost children and have been a wonderful support. They know exactly how we feel and how difficult this time of year is,” Jackie added.
There will be several walks on the day for all abilities, a walk for children, a shorter walk and a longer walk. Afterwards there will be hotdogs, soup, tea, coffee and snacks for everyone in the Gortin Glen House. Registration is at 1pm and the walks will start at 1.30pm.
