Three face charges over knife attack

Court

Enniskillen Magistrates Court

THREE people have been sent forward to the Crown Court on charges relating to an alleged stabbing in Lisnaskea last autumn.
Peter Anthony Smith (27) of Beechgrove Park, Ballinamallard and Nicola Leonard (26) with an address at Rosnarick Close, Derrygonnelly, appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court last Wednesday for a preliminary enquiry (PE).
Smith was charged with criminal damage, resisting police,  grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, aggravated burglary with the intent to commit GBH, and attempted murder. The charges relate to an incident at Trasna Way, Lisnaskea on October 8, 2016.
Leonard was charged with possession of cannabis, and with assisting offenders who have committed an offence, namely attempted murder, in connection with the same incident. Defence barrister Alan Blackburn said Leonard would be strongly denying the charges.
A teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the same case.
Another man, Brendan McLaughlin (27) with an address in Tempo, is charged with attempted murder and wounding with intent to commit GBH. McLaughlin was not present for the PE on Wednesday as he is currently in custody on an unrelated matter in the South.
When the charges were read to the three defendants present in court last week they raised no objections to the holding of the PE, and none of the three made any comment or called any witnesses or evidence at the time.
A spokesman for the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) said the defendants had a prima facie case to answer. District Judge Nigel Broderick said he was satisfied they had a case to answer.
Smith, Leonard and the youth were released on bail to appear before Dungannon Crown Court on November 23, when they will enter a plea.
