Rogue dog owners are now facing hefty fines

Dog owners may face a penalty if they do not clean up after their pets.

A NEW order to tackle the ongoing problem with dog fouling in public places has been introduced and offenders will face a hefty fine.
There has been a number of complaints from local residents as public places throughout Fermanagh has become littered by dog fouling.
The Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2017 has been introduced by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and comes into operation on July 27th, and aims to minimise the number of dog fouling offences throughout the district.
This order applies to all the land within the area of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council that the public are entitled or permitted to have access too.
The order states that “if a dog defecates at any time on land to which this Order applies and a person who is in charge of the dog at that time fails to remove the faeces from the land, that person shall be guilty of an offence.”
The order is in place unless the owner has a reasonable excuse for failing to remove the dog fouling from the area.
Dog owners may face a penalty if they do not clean up after their pets. The Council currently spends over £2million a year keeping the district clean and tidy, and officers will conduct regular inspections throughout the district and a £80 fine can be issued  for dog fouling offences.
