Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have come under fire after it emerged that a member of its staff parked a vehicle over two disabled car parking spaces at the Marble Arch Caves last Wednesday.
A visitor to the Caves spotted the Land Rover parked over the disabled spaces, and captured a picture of the vehicle claiming it had been parked there for over two hours.
The post which appeared on Facebook page ‘Northern Ireland disabled parking abusers exposed’, said,
“Shame on you Fermanagh and Omagh District Council!
“We await your explanation as to why your Land Rover is abandoned at Marble Arch Caves over two precious disabled bays on Wednesday, Easter week when the tourist attraction was very busy and was there for at least two hours.
Perhaps everyone should message the council until we get an acceptable answer for this terrible example of parking.”
The Marble Arch Caves car park has become particularly busy, with many people using the car park while the climb Cuilcagh Mountain. Locals have expressed their dismay at the council’s actions with
Dawna Alice Moore saying, “one law for them folks, another for us. We would be reported then clamped!”
Geraldine Montgomery also pointed out if “we park in the wrong place in Lisnaskea or Enniskillen, we are slap bang with a striker on the windscreen. Fined.”
Responding to the Facebook post, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have apologised for the inconvenience caused saying,
“We have investigated this report and can confirm that a member of staff wrongly parked the vehicle in this location. We acknowledge that this is completely unacceptable and have reminded staff with access to a Council vehicle that they should never park in a disabled parking bay, to ensure that this does not happen again.
We apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience caused and thank you for taking the time to make us aware of this.”
