A YOUNG student is currently recovering after being involved in a road traffic collision outside St Aidan’s High School in Derrylin. The young boy was stuck by a car while crossing the road around 4pm last Thursday evening, November 17th. It is understood that the student has suffered a broken leg, and is recovering from his injuries at home.
Local Councillor Barry Doherty has appealed for road users to exercise caution in built up areas especially at this time of year.
“Unfortunately, nearly every year we hear of something similar happening so everyone should be aware that the conditions have changed and ensuring they are safe on the roads. I never want to hear of incidents like this happening outside a school, I only want to hear of good things coming from schools but occasionally, sadly these things do happen.
I think we all need to be extra vigilant and motorists and pedestrians alike need to exercise caution. Those who are walking need to wear appropriate clothing with reflectors and ensure that they can be seen, and motorists should be extra vigilant,” added Barry Doherty.
Police are currently appealing for any witnesses of the accident to come forward.
“Police would like to hear from anyone who can provide any information about a road traffic collision that occurred around 4pm on Thursday 17 November 2016, outside St Aidan’s High School, Derrylin. A vehicle and a young male pedestrian were involved.”
St Aidan’s High School Derrylin were unavailable for comment.
