CALLING all animal lovers in Fermanagh, Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary is seeking volunteers to join their existing team in Ballinamallard.
The independent animal rescue charity rescues unwanted and stray cats and dogs across Fermanagh the surrounding areas. The charity is looking for people with spare time and a passion for animals to come and join them to enhance the services they provide.
Mike Schieffer, sanctuary manager is committed to the rescue of animals and ensuring they get the care and attention necessary.
“Our aim is to identify appropriate new homes for all of the animals within our care. We have approximately 40 dogs and 80 cats within the sanctuary at anyone time. Bright Eyes is a registered charity and is entirely dependent on donations from the public to exist. As such, volunteers are absolutely crucial to the running of the sanctuary and to ensure that our animals receive the highest standard of care possible.”
Bright Eyes was founded in 1989 by the late Pat Nolan and is staffed completely by volunteers. Due to a rise in demand, an increase in volunteers is required. Those interested will get involved in the general maintenance of the site and also caring for the animals.
“At present there are approximately 30 volunteers involved in various aspects of the sanctuaries work and we are always looking for enthusiastic new people. New volunteers are inducted and trained by the senior workers here and there are many ways in which they can help out.
“Within the sanctuary itself, there are opportunities to assist with the cleaning of the animal areas, feeding the animals themselves, walking dogs or simply playing with and helping to socialise our cats and dogs.
“We also rely on volunteers to assist us with fundraising and street collections, foster kittens and puppies for us within their own homes, trap and neuter stray cats and carry out home visits to ensure that potential new homes for all of our animals will be appropriate for their needs,” said Mike Schieffer.
Anyone interested in joining the team at Bright Eyes can phone 6638 8885 or email brighteyes.sanctuary@btinternet.com or through the Facebook page for more information. The charity is holding their third annual open day between 1pm and 5pm this Saturday August 27th which would be an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in joining the team to meet some of the existing volunteers and the animals themselves.
