Stephen Parker is the new chairman of the Enniskillen Round Table.
The design engineer took over the helm from Mark Edwards after his year in office.
Originally from Moira, Stephen, who moved to Enniskillen four years ago felt it was important to get involved in the community
Chatting to his wife Julie she mentioned the Round Table and the work that it does for charity, so he decided to give it a try.
“It was a good way for me to make a few friends here and get to know the community. I had lived in Belfast and the Round Table was a good way to do that,” he said.
Now he says it’s an honour and privilege to be Chairman of the local branch for a year.
He’s kicked his year off by organising a black tie ball at the Killyhevlin Hotel in November this year for the charity HomeStart.
“It’s early days yet, but there is plenty to do and organise. It’s a local charity and a good cause.. We’re always looking to do something like this at the Round Table,” he added. “They do a lot of good work around Enniskillen and Fermanagh.
“Hopefully we can raise some money for them to contiinue their work and help people.”
Stephen encourages any young man to get involved in the Round Table.
“We’re always looking for new blood to keep the organisation going from strength to strength. We’ve been going for nearly 70 years and we’re one of the last to be going in Northern Ireland. Many of our branches have been folding but Enniskillen has always had a strong Table. Indeed we’re one of the strongest in Ireland. Even with that it would be great to see more new faces join and contribute to the community,” said Stephen.
