Welcoming the news that 02 customers will benefit from 4G in Enniskillen, Declan Devlin, O2 shop manager said, “It is fantastic news, which we have been patiently waiting on. The rolling out of 4G service to Enniskillen is actually ahead of schedule.

“Certainly there is a bigger demand for data, with a huge increase in the use of social media and the use of iPhones. Therefore 4G network will allow for faster speeds and quicker streaming on devices.”

He pointed out that with the use of 4G whole films could be easily streamed to mobile phones, as 4G is expected to be up to five times faster than standard 3G network.

So far O2 currently offers 4G in over 600 towns and cities across the UK and by the end of 2017 will have invested over £3 billion in 4G, including the modernisation of its 2G and 3G networks.

Derek McManus, Chief Operating Officer, Telefónica UK said, “O2 customers in Enniskillen will soon be able to experience faster mobile internet on their devices such as streaming high definition TV, shopping on the go, and video calling. For our business customers, 4G is all about working more effectively.

“They can work remotely, access cloud services, collaborate using apps and so on. 4G will make everything easier for them.”

In order to launch 4G in Enniskillen, work is scheduled to start next Monday (January 4) to the relevant phone masts. During the work, there may be times when service will be intermittent. During this time O2 are asking customers to download the 02 TUGo app which enables them to make and receive calls on any WiFi-connected device using their mobile number.

O2 hope that customers will notice the new and improved service in the following weeks, subject to successful implementation and testing.
The news comes on the back of improved network to O2 customers in Clabby who are now able to avail of 3G service in the area.

Cllr David Mahon said, “The improvement to service in the area was long overdue, particularly with how important mobiles have become and to have a service that is instant is essential.

“Myself and my colleagues have always championed getting better mobile and broadband coverage and hopefully Fermanagh will continue to receive further improvements to coverage.”
