On Friday 17 June, Lakeland Special Olympics Club will celebrate its 10 year anniversary at the Lough Erne Resort, Enniskillen.
This social occasion marks the tremendous advancement and achievement of the club over the past 10 years and the history of Special Olympics in Fermanagh. It is night where the club will celebrate the personal and collective achievement of club athletes, coaches and volunteers, past and present, and the support of family, friends, carers and the wider community.
Over the years Lakeland Special Olympics Club has achieved great success with many of our athletics section attending the world, national and regional games to great acclaim, winning several gold, silver and bronze medals.
The football section has also achieved fantastic results by winning the prestigious George Best Community Cup and league titles. Two athletes realised the ultimate goal of being selected for the Northern Ireland Cerebral Palsy team and in November 2015, the club was awarded Disability Football Club of the Year at the McDonald’s IFA Community Awards.
Athletes have also enjoyed great success in aquatics and equestrian and in the early years of Special Olympics in Fermanagh, in bowling and gymnastics.
The evening will commence with a drinks reception at 7pm, followed by a three course dinner and dancing to local band, The Engagements. Dress code is smart.
Tickets will be available for purchase from committee members within the next week, priced £30 each; contact lakelandsoc@hotmail.co.uk.
