THREE ILLEGAL immigrants have been arrested in Enniskillen following a raid at a Chinese restaurant.

The men – aged 34, 45 and 47 – of Chinese origin were found to be working illegally at China City on Forthill Street, Enniskillen.

The operation was launched following a tip-off according to the Home Office.

Two of the suspects were found hiding in a room attached to the business and another was caught trying to flee through a back door.

All three have been transferred to an immigration detention centre pending deportation, the Home Office said.

The restaurant is facing a fine of up to £60,000 unless it can be demonstrated the necessary right-to-work checks were carried out.

Mike Golden, from Immigration Enforcement in Northern Ireland, said: “As this operation shows, we are working hard to arrest and remove those who abuse the UK’s immigration system.

“Using illegal labour is not a victimless crime. It cheats the taxpayer, undercuts businesses who ply an honest trade and deprives legitimate job seekers of employment opportunities.

“There are simple checks employers can carry out to ensure their employees have the right to work in the UK. Those who choose to ignore the rules will face the consequences.

“I would urge anyone with detailed and specific information about suspected immigration abuse to contact us.”
