A LISNASKEA father has been fined and ordered to pay his son compensation after damaging his jeep and trying to hit him with a metal bar in a “fit of rage”.

Francis McCrory, 64, of 59 Moorlough Road, Macknagh, Lisnaskea, appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday charged with assaulting his son Ian McCrory and causing criminal damage to his jeep.

The charges arose out on an incident on Tuesday, May 19 this year when McCrory damaged his son’s Isuzu Rodeo jeep with an 18 inch metal bar. Ian McCrory reported his father at Lisnaskea Police Station later the same day, where he also claimed his father had tried to strike him with the bar.

McCrory, a married father-of-two, admitted to the criminal damage in a police interview, stating he had attacked the jeep “in a fit of rage”, but denied trying to hit his son.

Defence barrister Mr McAleer said McCrory had spent his working life building up a construction business and had appointed his two sons as directors.

He said his client had later had a falling out and there was now “bad blood” between them.
“This is the first time he had taken the law into his own hands,” said Mr McAleer, who added McCory had a “very limited record.” He handed a character reference for the defendant into the court.

District Judge Nigel Broderick fined McCrory a total of £200 and ordered him to pay his son a total of £450 compensation for the damage caused to his jeep.
