ELEVEN local scouts and two leaders will embark on an experience of a lifetime next week when they travel to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan.
The three week trip will take the scouts to Kira-hama in Japan for the jamboree, where they will work with troops from across the world. The scouts, aged between 13-16 represent seven local Enniskillen Schools. In Japan they will get to experience multiculturalism at the highest level with 165 countries representedin one small area of Japan and will learn how to live in harmony and peace.
A Town Hall reception was held last week for the scouts and chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Thomas O’Reilly addressed the young people.
“I am confident that you will be excellent ambassadors not only for your families and your scout units but also for all the people of the Fermanagh and Omagh District and who knows you may use it as an opportunity to promote the area and encourage your new friends to come to visit us here in this lovely part of the world to camp at Castle Archdale or Castle Saunderson.”
Enniskillen group leader Tony Smith explained the excitement ahead of the trip.
“They will never have an experience like it again. I’ve been lucky, this is my fourth World Scout Jamboree, the first being in Thailand and I know it is something the kids are really, really excited about. It will be an experience of a lifetime.”
