THE JOLLY SANDWICH in Enniskillen has scooped a top award at a gala catering awards night.
The business picked took the title of Cafe/Bistro of the Year at the fifth Licensed and Catering News Awards, which were held at The Europa Hotel in Belfast at the beginning of the month. And, a number of Fermanagh businesses were also finalists in their categories.
The venue beat off stiff competition from a number of very highly regarded competitors in order to take the title this year. Among those who had been in the running were Bubbacue in Belfast and Katch 27 in Kircubbin.
Hazel Johnston, of the Jolly Sandwich told the Fermanagh Herald this week: “We were shortlisted but it came as a total shock because the standard was so high. We were up against hotels, big chefs – we are a sandwich bar so to win this was a wonderful achievement.
“They said that everything was fresh, with seasonal produce and the atmosphere too.
“They said the staff knew what they were doing and were very enthusiastic.
“The customers are over the moon – I don’t know how many likes now we’ve got on Facebook. We’re overwhelmed, honestly.”
Other businesses that were finalists included Necarne Arms, in the ‘Bar of the Year’ category and The Enniskillen Hotel and Lusty Beg Island.
Both The Enniskillen Hotel and Lusty Beg Island were announced as finalists in the category of Hotel of the Year (up to 75 rooms).
The Enniskillen Hotel were also delighted to be nominated as a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Social Media in Hospitality’ category which was judged upon their social media campaigns such as the annual ‘12 Days of Christmas’ campaigns.
Director David Cadden was among those who attended the awards representing both properties, the event was held in the Europa Hotel, Belfast and was a great night, both properties were delighted to be nominated for such prestigious awards within the hospitality industry.
For the Necarne Arms, Ian and Deane Coalter were in attendance.
