Following the coldest May for 20 years and a first week of June in which the sun struggled to come out behind the clouds, Fermanagh is finally seeing the first signs of summr with sunny skies and high temperaturespredicted to last well into next week at least.
The outlook, according to Harm Luijkx of Met Eireann, is particularly good for the North which, in contract to more eastern and southern parts, came off worst in recent weeks.
“It’s looking good, settled over the country with high pressure right over it.”
Indeed, the first fruits of that benign climate were clearly visible at the weekend, with farmers and silage contractors taking the first cut.
Not one for hyping things, Harm, now a familiar voice on RTE Radio, said the present conditions were giving a lot of dry and sunny weather ‘which should stay around in the north for the rest of the week’.
“Temperatures are expected to increase by a degree or two up till Friday, with mid-teens on Wednesday (today) and 20 degrees-plus on Thursday.
“It will stay dry with light winds and with good sunshine most of the time.”
As for the weekend, Harm expected the weather will turn a bit colder, although it will still be mainly dry with sunshine at times.
“I think temperatures will fall back to mid-teens. Current indications are that the weather will stay quite settled for next week as well, and temperatures may increase.”
