A FERMANAGH butcher who found himself in brief internet fame over the Easter period with his unique deep fried Creme Eggs combo has just unveiled his latest creation: Buckfast Bangers!

In time for the inaugral so-called ‘National Buckfast Day’ (May 9), Irvinestown butcher Stephen Millar of Millar Meats has unveiled his latest concoction involving the tonic wine.

“We’ve a lad that works with me who is an awful fan of drinking Buckfast – so we decided we’d try the Buckfast sausages,” Stephen told the Fermanagh Herald.

A few months back, Stephen’s Creme Eggs wrapped in sausage meat and breadcrumbs (and deep fried) went viral online after it was picked up by the likes of Belfast Live, Dailyedge.ie and JOE.ie.

While he was reluctant to give away the recipe to his latest creation, (“That’s the secret: If I told you that I’d have to kill you!”), he eventually relented: “The meat is left to marinate in the Buckfast overnight and that gives it the flavour. They’re sweet with the aftertaste of the wine.”

The butcher said that the sausages have been a big hit with both tourists and locals – and have proven more popular than his creme eggs.

“We’re just trying to come up with new ideas. It’s about getting new customers, tempting people’s tastebuds,” Stephen added.
