NEXT SUNDAY the Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society will bring an extract from their hugely successful production of the Shakespeare classic ‘The Comedy of Errors’ to the Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
As part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages Project three Northern Ireland amateur theatre companies will bring their Shakespeare productions to a showcase in Belfast, with the best production moving on to another showcase event in Stratford -Upon -Avon, the birthplace of the famous playwright. The Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society performed ‘The Comedy of Errors’ at the Ardhowen Theatre from February 19-21 in the Ardhowen Theatre.
Nick Young, Society secretary and director for The Comedy of Errors explained that the Society will put on a half an hour showcase of ‘The Comedy of Errors’. They will perform the last two scenes of their production and 18 of the cast will take part. If chosen ahead of the Beaver Players and The Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts they will join representatives from the other regions in the UK in Stratford on August 9.
“We will be hopeful, but the other two companies: One of them put on Macbeth, the other put on Hamlet, both are very different styles so it’s very difficult to compare like with like.”
