AN EXTRA 28 hours per week – including Sundays – will greet users of the new Kinawley post office when it opens in June.

Moving from its present location at Main Street Kinawley, the post office terminal will sit alongside the tills at Curry’s shop, just a few metres up from its present location.

The move is part of wider changes to how post offices are managed across the North. Sorting which had previously taken place in Kinawley will move to Enniskillen.

At the store, local residents and small business customers will be able to access a wide range of services during the extended opening hours, including special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Michael Curry, owner at MJ Curry, explained: “The post office lady is retiring here. The post men were operating from Kinawley with sorting but that’s going to happen in Enniskillen now. It’ll all be part of the shop and time will tell how it goes.”

Suzanne Richardson, regional manager at the Post Office, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

She added: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular. The modernisation is part of a major government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade.”

The present Kinawley Post Office next door at 32 Main Street, will close at 12.30pm on Saturday June 6. During this period of closure before the new branch is operational, services can be accessed nearby at Macken Post Office.

Kinawley’s new post office opening hours will be in line with the shop’s opening hours: 9am to 6pm Monday. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 9am to 7.30pm Wednesday and Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.
