THE ALLIANCE party is expected to announce a candidate to run in the Westminster election for Fermanagh and South Tyrone in May, later this week.
The Fermanagh Herald understands that the candidate is Hannah Su, who previously stood in the Fermanagh and South Tyrone Assembly election in 2011.
Hannah, of Vietnamese origin, has lived most of her life in Dungannon. She stood unsuccessfully for election in Mid Ulster in 2014, and is listed on the party’s website as ‘spokesperson for Dungannon’.
Ms Su will compete against current MP Michelle Gildernew, Sinn Fein, the UUP’s Tom Elliott, the SDLP’s John Coyle and the Green Party’s Tanya Jones. Talks remain ongoing over the potential for a single unionist candidate, and the DUP have not announced a party candidate.
In 2010, Vasundhara Kamble stood for the party, however received less than 500 votes.
Ms Su attended primary school in Craigavon and secondary school in Dungannon before going on to the University of the West of England in Bristol to read Law.
After University she worked for an NGO that helped and empowered the Chinese Community in the Southern region of Northern Ireland .
Ms Su is currently employed by the Southern Trust as a community lifestyle support worker on a project called REACH which stands for Regenerating Environments and Communities’ Health. She also teaches English for Speakers of Other Languages at the South West College in Dungannon. She is a member of Toastmasters in Cookstown (Cookstown Speakers club).
