New facility for McAree search teams

Round O Shelter bmcb 6

Temporary facilities for those involved in the search for missing Monaghan man Kieran McAree are now in place at the Round O.

The accommodation is in place as the Anchorage Cafe which has previously provided facilities for the search, must now undergo refurbishment for the new tourist season. At last week’s meeting of Fermanagh District Council it was confirmed that assistance would be given by the council to aid in the search.

Stephen Nixon of Erne Tours, confirmed to the Herald he extend the offering of the premises for ‘as long as physically possible’, but added that the ‘family comes first’. He has helped provide furniture to allow volunteers to continue in their efforts at the new temporary accommodation situated close to the water’s edge at the Round O.

The search continues for missing Kieran, who was last seen in the Henry Street area of Enniskillen in the early hours of Wednesday, December 17. The 23-year-old is described as 5’7” tall, with short curly brown hair, and wore glasses.

PSNI Superintendent Derek Scott explained that a specialist search dog was part of the search along with police boat crews on Friday.

“The specialist dog teams are skilled in water-based searches and are also trained in land searches.

This is an invaluable resource, which the PSNI has used on a number of occasions throughout this search operation.

The PSNI helicopter was also in the area on Friday. Officers from Air Support assisted colleagues on the ground and in the water during another day of searching. As always we would like to thank those who have assisted in the search and would appeal to anyone with information regarding Kieran’s last known movements to get in touch on the 101 number. As always, remember to stay safe if you plan to join one of the voluntary or independent search teams. It is important to make sure you are adequately prepared for your own safety and safety of others.”

The search is now nine weeks in, with some of the agencies involved in the search including the Fire Service, Northwest Mountain Rescue, RNLI, Foyle Rescue, and the PSNI.
