A NEW £6M school is to be built for Enniskillen Model Primary School in Enniskillen, it was confirmed yesterday (Tuesday).
The new build is to be located on the existing site – and it is hoped that it will be completed by Spring 2017. The Western Education and Library Board received approval from the Department of Education to its economic appraisal for the build.
The design of the school is being finalised with appointed consultants McAdam Design. During construction, the pupils will remain in the existing school before moving to the new school.
School principal Winston Glass, speaking to the Fermanagh Herald yesterday, expressed his excitement at the news.
“I was delighted to get a message on Tuesday morning from Ms Iris Barker, Property Services (Western Education and Library Board), to confirm that the Department of Finance and Personnel have approved the business case to proceed with a new school build on the existing site as quickly as possible.
He went on: “This comes as very welcome news to all those who are connected to Enniskillen Model Primary School. The governors and staff are very appreciative of the attentive support they have received from various parties (and most notably the WELB) in getting to this very significant stage. As the school prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2017 this news helps everyone to look forward to a new building that will serve the community, staff, parents and pupils well into the future.”
Mr Barry Mulholland, WELB Chief Executive, said: “The WELB is delighted for Enniskillen Model Primary School. The approval to the Economic Appraisal moves the project forward and will provide much needed accommodation for the school.
“A new Enniskillen Model Primary School will provide a modern place of learning and teaching for the pupils and staff.”
