A LACK teenager has admitted to causing the death of a 20-year-old Tyrone man in a 2013 car crash.
Nineteen-year-old Christopher McKenna of Glenarn Close, Lack, appeared in the dock of Dungannon Crown Court today (Friday), pleading guilty to a number of motoring offences, including causing the death by careless driving of Stephen Gilmour on October 27, 2013.
The single vehicle crash on the Omagh Road, occurred on a Sunday afternoon, just yards from the Gilmour home in Gardrum Heights, Dromore.
The 20-year-old was among three occupants in the grey Renault Mégane, which left the road close to Dromore St Dympna’s GAA grounds. McKenna was aged seventeen at the time of the incident.
Today, he admitted to being behind the wheel of the car. He further admitted driving without insurance and taking the vehicle without the consent of the owner.
Judge Melody McReynolds adjourned the case for pre-sentencing reports.
Granting bail, she said: “Obviously custodial sentences are always a consideration in cases such as this, but there is no opposition to bail at this stage.”
Mr Gilmour’s family attended the short hearing, seated in a separate section of the public gallery. Relatives of the defendant were seated in the main gallery.
McKenna was remanded on continuing bail to return for sentencing on March 27.
