Police are warning computer users to be vigilant after money was defrauded from a woman in the Lisnaskea area by a telephone scam.

This was reported to police on Thursday 11 December.

Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Les Hobson said: “Criminals can target computer users. This victim received a cold call purporting to be from Microsoft and saying that the woman had a problem with her software. Thinking that this would be solved by the caller, the woman made two payments. This is a scam.

“I would warn local people to be vigilant and protect themselves against unscrupulous criminals who are constantly identifying and developing new methods to defraud innocent people.

“Personal details or payments should never be disclosed to unsolicited callers or via email or online. Legitimate companies will not usually approach you in this way.

“If you have any concerns or require any further advice or information please feel free to contact your local crime prevention officer on 101. Action Fraud can also be contacted on 0300 123 2040 or via their website www.actionfraud.police.uk”L
