THE people of Kesh have gone the extra mile as part of a fundraising effort and parted with their clothes to produce a special calendar.
It has been a memorable for the Kesh community defibrillator initiative with two of the life-saving devices now active in the village and sixty people given training in basic first aid and the use of the defibrillator.
To close out such a successful year, and with a view to supporting the ongoing aims of the initiative, the Kesh Defibrillator Group committee decided to part with their clothes and their dignity to produce a fundraising calendar.
Group representative Chris Lennox stated his hope the calendar might brighten up many a day over the next 12 months.
“Kesh Defibrillator Group would like to thank each and every person who made this calendar possible. Our models were big-hearted and brave, our fellow community groups rallied around the effort no questions asked and too many people to mention performed unseen heroics to make this happen. Thank you, one and all.”
A total of forty four brave souls joined in the fun and agreed to pose for the calendar. Shot on everyone’s free time over a period of two weeks, the calendar has proved a massive hit, almost selling out within three weeks of being launched.
The funds raised from the calendar sale have secured the provision of ongoing training for dozens more local people, increasing even further the chances of the initiative making the vital difference in an emergency situation.
Local UUP councillor Raymond Farrell praised the group for their fundraising efforts.
“I want to congratulate the drive and initiative shown by the Kesh Defibrillator Group in providing their local community with two defibrillators. When we consider that in the past year 1,400 people suffered from a cardiac arrest in Northern Ireland, the importance of early intervention by trained volunteers is essential to a sufferer’s chances of survival. The local group have our total admiration and we can be reassured that such people exist in our community who care about the welfare of others. My best wishes and thanks to you all.”
The two defibrillators are located at the North Fermanagh Cricket and Association Football clubhouse and in the old BT phone box beside the PSNI station.
