IT’S an exciting few weeks for Nathan Carter.
The country musician, who lives in Enniskillen, is releasing his first Christmas album – and is performing a unique concert in St Macartin’s Cathedral in December.
The album’s accompanying single is released publicly on Thursday, an original track entitled ‘Christmas Stuff’. The album itself comes out on December 5.
“It’s my first every Christmas album or single so I’m very excited about it,” Nathan explained, “I recorded it in Grouse lodge studios, down in the midlands of Ireland – that would have seen the likes of Michael Jackson who stayed for a month and recorded; Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini, so that was great – it was my first time in that studio.”
Nathan recently signed with the renowned Decca Records and this will be his first release with them.
“We had eight musicians and recorded the album in three days. I just felt that the time was right and it’s the first album I’ve put out on a proper record label. Universal are releasing it as part of my deal with Decca Records.
“It’s going to be stocked in all major retailers, HMV, Tesco – all round the country, so it’s great that it’s getting more exposure than last time.”
The album features 10 covers and two originals: “I think Holy Night is probably the stand out track on that. There’s a nice arrangement of that. Hopefully ‘Christmas Stuff’ will be the one that catches on. I recorded a video for it in London about a month ago – and the video will be coming out next week.”
As part of St Macartin’s Cathedral fund, which will help repair the cathedral’s roof, Nathan plays the venue on Monday December 15.
Dean of St Macartin’s, Kenneth Hall, said that he was looking forward to the event.
“It’s a Christmas special, including a number of carols. He did the Christmas special last year and it was sell out.”
Dean Hall added: “He could raise the roof, because it’s the roof that needs repaired!”
Nathan himself explained: “We’re really excited about that. We’d a lovely time last year at that gig. It was a different sort of gig. This year we’ll be doing a lot of Christmas songs from our album. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to since we did it last year.
“We’re doing a lot more acoustic stuff, it’s a nice setting especially when all the candles are lit.”
