STAFF at BT in Enniskillen are getting their walking shoes on – and taking a trip up to Belfast in aid of Children in Need.
The 90 mile trip will involve around 30 hours of walking for the 17 volunteers next week.
While there are a few pit stops planned along the way, it will be a gruelling test for staff according to duty manager Anita Maguire.
“Every time a shout comes from someone to help raise money for charity the people from BT Enniskillen say ‘yes’ so it was no different for Children in Need 2014 – except this time we wanted to do something massive.
“A couple of ideas were put on the table and we grabbed onto the one: ‘Let’s walk to Belfast!’”
And, the reaction from the rest of the BT staff has been supportive.
“People say we are mad, others say it cannot be done, and a lot are saying ‘You won’t make it!’. However we have the full support of BT Better Future programme and our colleagues here in Enniskillen both from the Engineering side and the call centre.”
The 17 volunteers will leave the BT building in Enniskillen on Thursday November 13 at 8am.
The event will be supported by BT Ireland in the form of support vehicles and drivers for the vans which will be vital for the trip. Water for the route has been sponsored by Eamon Kelly from Beechvale Natural Water, Cavanacarragh. And A&E doctor, Dr Grace McMacken, has volunteered to travel with the group on the day.
The group is requesting support in the form of physios or massage therapist who would be willing to meet with them at some of their stopping points. They also require power gels, glucose sweets and food for the trip.
Bucket collectors are also needed along the room, including in Enniskillen on November 13.
Sponsor cards are available in local shops and you can also sponsor online at the MyDonate page: www.bt.com/pudsey
