Matty to release video for single

Matty James

MUSICIAN Matty James, Lisnaskea, is to release a new video to coincie with his latest single from his debut album ‘Last One To Die’.

Matty spent the weekend recording a new video to supplement his song ‘Never Learn’ – which also features a host of local musicians.

He released the album back in May – and the 23-year-old has been pleased with the response.

“It’s been a busy couple of months with finishing and releasing my debut solo album ‘Last One To Die’. I have also been playing live quite a bit, including some festivals like Camden Rocks which was a real highlight. Now I am preparing the release of the second single and video off the record and booking shows for the rest of the year.

“The response has been great so far. The album has had brilliant reviews and so many people have been in touch with kind words which means a lot. The work really pays off when you find out people relate with what you do.”

Matty described the new single as ‘from the acoustic ballad side of my new album’.

He said: “It has a lonely, country feel and features the wonderful accompaniment of Roisin Burns on piano/backing vocals and my brother Phil on the mandolin. They both appear in the video which was shot by Ronan McGrade and set up to look like an old dance hall performance.

“The whole thing was done in a couple of hours and is looking great already. The melody of ‘Never Learn’ had been rattling around my head for a while and I finally got the words and arrangement right when I was recording demos for the album back in January. It’s a nice feeling when it all falls into place and I think it’s one of the best songs on the record.”

The single is to be released in the coming weeks.

As well as solo work, Matty has been working hard with funeral punk band Cadaver Club, who played in the Limelight Belfast.

It features, from the county, on vocals Kevin McHugh (Mr Crowe), Phil Cassidy and Matt himself (Dirge and Draggle, the brothers Filth, on guitar and drums respectively), and bassist Jolene Phair (Boom Chic Chic).

“The Belfast show was warm up to our appearance at this years Rebellion festival in Blackpool. It’s the biggest independent punk festival in the world and we have managed to get a prime slot so we are really looking forward to it. We have also been back in the clubhouse writing and recording demos for our next record. We have a lot of new material to get through!” You can keep up to date with Matty’s work at www.mattyjamesofficial.com.
