FOR ALEX Holder, who goes into the Milk Cup a year young, he’s looking forward to a week that he’ll never forget.
Alex is a part of the Northern Ireland Under-14 development squad, and has played for Ballinamallard since a young age.
He admitted that he hadn’t expected to get onto the junior Milk Cup squad at the first time of asking.
The central midfielder said: “I was excited to give it a go – I didn’t expect to get in because I’m a year young but I thought I’d see what the trials were like and know for next year.”
Being a year young, Alex said that he is faced with the challenge of playing against players physically stronger than him.
“It is hard because they’re a lot bigger than me and stronger – but it’s good to get playing against that because it’s what I’ll be playing against in the Milk Cup.
“I think I’ve improved quite a lot since the trials, and the whole team has as well. Everyone has got to know each other better – know their positions and their role in the team.”
The 14-year-old said that he feels the team’s strength lies in its ‘spine’, and is looking forward to the tournament next week.
“I’m really excited – I’m a bit nervous to be playing against Everton and Corinthians – the boys who’ve been there before say it’s a great week and they’d do it all over again if they could.”
